Research Applications & Storage Protocols
Hypermnesic Substituted Phenethylamine & Memory Enhancement Profile
PRL-8-53 is a nootropic substituted phenethylamine that has been shown to act as a hypermnesic drug in humans, first synthesized by medical chemistry professor Nikolaus Hansl at Creighton University in the 1970s as part of his work on amino ethyl meta benzoic acid esters. The exact mechanism of action remains unknown, but it displays possible cholinergic properties, potentiates dopamine while partially inhibiting serotonin, and reverses the catatonic and ptotic effects of reserpine. One human study on PRL-8-53 confirmed its potency as a memory enhancer, demonstrating the ability to enhance learning and help in retaining verbal information with statistically significant improvement (most P values better than 0.01, some better than 0.001). The compound is relatively non-toxic with an oral LD₅₀ in mice of 860 mg/kg, giving the drug a high therapeutic index. Research demonstrates hypermnesic effects without stimulant properties at doses up to 200 mg/kg, and it displays spasmolytic effects for in vitro/in vivo modeling applications.
Handling & Storage Guidelines
