Research Applications & Storage Protocols
Lipophilic Thiamine Derivative & Dopamine Modulation Profile
Sulbutiamine is a man-made synthetic chemical similar to vitamin B1 (thiamine) that consists of two thiamine molecules bound together by a sulfur group, making it lipophilic (fat-soluble) unlike water-soluble vitamin B1. This lipophilic property allows more sulbutiamine to be taken up by brain cells and results in greater net effect on the Central Nervous System. Sulbutiamine is able to increase thiamine levels in the brain and is thought to have mild stimulant effects. It functions as a dopamine modulator and has been developed for nootropic effects and cognitive function improvement. Research demonstrates applications for weakness, fatigue reduction (including fatigue in multiple sclerosis and post-infection fatigue), enhanced athletic performance, mood improvement, energy and stamina increase, and cognitive enhancement in in vitro/in vivo modeling applications. For nootropic effects or to improve cognitive function, daily doses range from 400 to 600 mg in research settings. To improve mood and increase energy and stamina, doses can be up to about 850 mg per day.
